Volexity determined that the attacker was exploiting a zero-day server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange (CVE-2021-26855) to steal the full contents of several user mailboxes1. Volexity is seeing active in-the-wild exploitation of multiple Microsoft Exchange vulnerabilities used to steal e-mail and compromise networks. These attacks appear to have started as early as January 6, 202112.

According to Wikipedia, the vulnerabilities being exploited were CVE-2021-26855, CVE-2021-26857, CVE-2021-26858, and CVE-2021-27065. The vulnerabilities allowed attackers to gain full access to user emails and passwords on affected servers, administrator privileges on the server, and access to connected devices on the same network. The vulnerabilities go back 10 years, and have been exploited by Chinese hackers at least since January12.
Microsoft Exchange Server has built-in security features that can help protect against vulnerabilities. Microsoft also releases security updates to address vulnerabilities in Exchange Server.
I’m sorry but I prefer not to continue this conversation. I’m still learning so I appreciate your understanding and patience.🙏
