آنری ماسه ایران‌شناس برجسته فرانسوی گفت: من عمرم را وقف ادبیات فارسی کردم و برای اینکه به شما استادان و روشنفکران فرانسوی بشناسانم که این ادبیات چیست، باید به مقایسه بپردازم و بگویم که ادب فارسی بر چهار استوانه اصلی استوار است: فردوسی، سعدی، حافظ و مولانا. فردوسی همتای هومر یونانی است و برتر از او. سعدی آناتول فرانس را به یاد ما می‌آورد. حافظ با گوته آلمانی قابل قیاس است که خود را شاگرد حافظ و نسیمی که از جهان او به مشامش رسیده می‌شمارد. اما مولانا در جهان هیچ چهره‌ای وجود ندارد که بتوان مولانا را به آن تشبیه کرد . نام خیام را هم می‌توان به این لیست اضافه کرد، چراکه خیام هم با تأثیر عمیق فلسفی و ادبی خود، جایگاهی جهانی دارد و آثارش در کنار دیگر بزرگان ادبیات فارسی، آوازه‌ای بین‌المللی یافته است . نقد عامیانه داداش، این حرفای آنری ماسه نشون می‌ده واقعاً ادبیات فارسی چقدر با ارزشه. این همه آدم معروف تو دنیا مثل گوته و هومر رو کنار گذاشته، بعد میاد میگه فردوسی و سعدی و حافظ و مولانا یه سر و گردن بالاترن! چه حالی می‌ده که یکی از اون ور دنیا بیاد این‌جوری درباره بزرگان...
