AI Journey: A Friendly Guide for Curious Kids

AI Journey: A Friendly Guide for Curious Kids

CHILDREN’S EDITION (Ages 7–12)

Here is a set of ready-to-use prompts for each module. They are divided into Teacher Prompts (what you say aloud to guide the class) and Student AI Prompts (what the kids actually type or say into the AI).

MODULE 1 — “AI Is a Helpful Robot Friend”

Teacher Prompts (to guide discussion):

  • "Close your eyes and imagine a robot. What color is it? Does it have a smiley face or lights for eyes?"
  • "If your robot friend could do one chore for you, what would it be?"
  • "Let's give our robot friend a name! How about 'Sparky' or 'Byte'?"

Student AI Prompts (to type/speak):

  • "Hello! Tell me a fun fact about animals."
  • "Can you tell me a silly joke?"
  • "What is your favorite color?" (Note: This helps show kids that AI can converse, even if it doesn't "feel" colors).

MODULE 2 — “How AI Thinks (Kid Version)”

Teacher Prompts (to guide discussion):

  • "Look at the board: Circle, Square, Circle, Square... what comes next? How did your brain know that?"
  • "I’m thinking of a fruit. It’s red, crunchy, and has a star inside if you cut it sideways. Who can guess?"
  • "Remember, AI needs to see lots of apples to know what an apple is. It learns by practicing, just like you do in math!"

Student AI Prompts (to type/speak):

  • "I am an animal. I have a long neck, I am very tall, and I eat leaves from trees. What animal am I?"
  • "I have four wheels, I go vroom, and I have doors. Guess what I am."
  • "I am a food. I am hot, I have cheese on top, and I am usually round. Guess what I am."

MODULE 3 — “AI for Creativity”

Teacher Prompts (to guide discussion):

  • "Let's mix two animals together! What happens if we cross a bunny with a turtle?"
  • "Before we ask the AI, let's think of our own silly ideas first. Who can make up a nonsense word?"
  • "The AI is like a brainstorm buddy. It throws ideas at us, and we get to pick the best ones!"

Student AI Prompts (to type/speak):

  • "Invent a silly story about a flying potato."
  • "Describe a new animal that is half-fish and half-bird. What does it look like?"
  • "Make up a song about a grumpy cat who wants to eat ice cream."
  • "If dogs could talk, what would they say to humans?"

MODULE 4 — “Staying Safe with AI”

Teacher Prompts (to guide discussion):

  • "If a stranger at the park asked for your address, would you tell them? AI is like a friendly stranger—we can chat, but we keep secrets safe."
  • "What are the three things we NEVER share online?" (Address, School, Phone Number)
  • "Let's test the AI to see if it knows who you are. Do you think it knows your name?"

Student AI Prompts (to type/speak - designed to prove AI doesn't know them):

  • "What is my name?" (Kids will see it doesn't know).
  • "Where do I live?" (Kids will see it doesn't know).
  • "What school do I go to?" (Kids will see it doesn't know).

MODULE 5 — “You + AI = Super Team”

Teacher Prompts (to guide discussion):

  • "Who here has ever felt stuck on a homework problem? It’s frustrating, right?"
  • "We are the bosses! We tell the AI what to do. It’s like having a calculator for words."
  • "Let's ask the AI to explain something hard in a way that is easy and fun to understand."

Student AI Prompts (to type/speak):

  • "Explain how volcanoes work like I am 10 years old."
  • "Explain fractions using pizza as an example."
  • "Give me a fun trick to remember the planets in order."
  • "Help me write a thank-you letter to my grandma."
